U-turn Tories are not fit to govern

- FIONA PARKER Edited by

■ The fact that this dreadful Government has made so many U-turns in such a short period of time clearly demonstrates it’s not governing properly. This is why Britain has the worst death toll in Europe and a plunging economy.

Yet hapless Johnson still refuses to sack the hopeless ministers who are directly responsible for the carnage. He has stuffed his Cabinet with Brexiteers who are incapable of guiding Britain through stormy seas and instead he points his finger at others.

Covid has caught him out big time so it’s not surprising to see more confusion over the wearing of masks in schools. You can’t help but feel sorry for parents who must be worried to death over the safety of their children.

Bill Cook, Teignmouth, Devon

■ When are we, the public and the Government’s paymasters, going to get rid of this useless Cabinet which appears totally out of its depth. It is doing more U-turns because of its mistakes than the buses at the terminal at the end of my road! I wonder what the cost to the taxpayer is of not getting it right first time.

We can’t carry on like this. Remember Labour’s message about the Treasury after the 2010 election – that there was no money left? Well, it will be a lot worse after this lot finally go.

Eddie Fidler, Oxford

■ The public can be forgiven for thinking that this Government has no idea what it is doing when it comes to running this country. After 12 months of knee-jerk policies and U-turns, you have to wonder whether they are fit to govern.

I cannot think of one single thing this Government has done right since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country back in March.

Len Goodwin, Doncaster South Yorks

■ Boris Johnson is no friend of mine, but I can’t understand the carping about his U-turns on policy. He is doing what we want in response to changing circumstances and shouldn’t we applaud that? Why protest and sign petitions over bad policy unless it’s in hope of a U-turn? It is as if we are now punishing him for not being pig-headed.

■ When will the Tory Party realise that come the next election they are likely to lose with an even bigger majority against them than the seats they gained this time?

They chose Johnson as an election winner but he clearly can’t govern. The Tories have always had a level of cronyism but this lot are on another level. Hardly a fair democracy.

GF Willmetts, Bridgwater Somerset

■ Boris Johnson hasn’t been able to lead on any issue since this virus began. He is always two steps behind the pack and nowhere near to the world leaders who have been proactive in tackling problems before they became a bigger issue. He is totally in the wrong job and way out of his depth.

■ Why does this Government dither about everything? Make masks compulsory for everyone as soon as they leave the house. It will help save lives and get rid of this terrible virus.

M Ridley, Tyne and Wear
