RASH STARTS TASK FORCE TO FEED 4.2M HUNGRY KIDS

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

CHILDREN’S champion Marcus Rashford has the Government in his sights again after launching a task force to feed the UK’s 4.2million hungry kids.

The Manchester United and England forward forced Prime Minister Boris Johnson to make a U-turn and fund free school meals to 1.3m eligible children during the summer holidays and is now targeting Chancellor Rishi Sunak.

Rashford (right) has published a three-point plan and wants the Chancellor to implement his proposals in his next Budget this autumn.

He wants the Government to give free school meals to every child on

Universal Credit to cover an extra 1.7m kids, as well as expanding holiday provision.

And he wants Healthy Start vouchers to rise from £3.10 per week to £4.25 and given to everyone on Universal Credit.

Rashford has written to the PM, the Chancellor and every MP asking for their support.

Supermarkets Co-op, Aldi, Sainsbury’s, Iceland, Tesco and Waitrose are backing him, as are Deliveroo, Fareshare, the Food Foundation and Kellogg’s.

Rashford said: “I have always found power in unity and team work and I’m thrilled such influential voices have put any allegiance aside to join me on my mission to move the conversation on child food poverty forward. I encourage everyone to listen. The time for action is now.”
