A FORMER footballer lost seven stone in lockdown to rejoin the game and score the last-minute winner in an FA Cup match.

Kieran Amos, 24, weighed 21st 6lbs on the first day of lockdown and was so shocked, he immediately embarked on a new diet and fitness regime.

The weight loss meant he was able to restart his football career – eight years after his last senior game – and was picked for non-league Sawbridgeworth Town’s FA cup tie earlier this week.

Kieran, of Bishop’s Stortford, Herts, went on to score the winner against Romford Town in the 91st minute.

Kieran admitted: “Since scoring the winner I’ve not slept for two nights.”

It was an astonishing achievement for Kieran, who had gradually put on weight since suffering a nasty ankle injury as a teenager. He said: “I’m so pleased – I was embarrassed to look at myself in the mirror six months ago and now I’m playing in the FA Cup.”

Kieran said he realised changing his body meant changing his mindset.

Describing his lifestyle changes, he added: “I completely changed my diet – no more kebabs, take-outs and fry-ups.

“I started going out running with my brother Cameron but my first one-kilometre run in March saw me stop four times before I finished it.”

He said his first 5km run took 47 minutes but last month it was 21.58.

Kieran thanked his partner Faye Gallaway, Sawbridgeworth’s manager Lee Mackman and his parents Trevor and Paula for the support they gave him.

He added: “Without them, I just couldn’t have achieved this.”
