Van der Sar tips Donny to be hero at Reds
Van de Beek has joined United from Ajax in a £40million deal to o become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first major signing of the summer.
The Holland international, 23, is regarded as one of the best young midfielders in Europe after helping Ajax win the Dutch title last season and reach the Champions League semi-finals in 2019.
Former United star Van der Sar ( below) admits Ajax could not stand in Van de Beek’s way once the Reds came calling – and has urged the English club to treasure their new signing and bring out the best in him. m.
Van de Sar, who is now w Ajax chief executive, , has written an open letter to United fans insisting how proud his club is of Van de Beek k and what he could go on n to achieve. In the letter (right), he said: “Dear Manchester United fans, One of ours is joining you this season. And like so many players before him, he’s been with us since he was just a little boy.
“Shortly after his debut, he became one of our best. Especially the last amazing.
“From the Europa League final ( in 2017) to our Champions League run and winning the Dutch Championship. Like you, we p pride ourselves on being one of t the best at developing talent. Y You could say your new star is t the embodiment of that pride.
“But we understand it’s time for him to move on. To dream on.
“And where better to do so than in your theatre? Trust me, I know. Please take good care of our Donny, and help him dream. Enjoy the future.”
Van de Beek is currently on Nations League duty with Holland and will join up with his new United team-mates next week following games against Poland and Italy.
He said: “I cannot begin to explain how incredible an opportunity it is to join a club with such an amazing history.
