RAFA BENITEZ and his infamous ‘facts’ speech cropped up again in the BBC documentary about Liverpool’s 30-year wait for the title.

And Yossi Benayoun (below) has claimed Liverpool legends Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher accused Benitez, in a meeting the next day, of potentially costing them the title in 2009 with his rant about Manchester United ted getting favourable ble decisions.

Israeli TV, said: “When we were leading in the league, Rafa Benitez suddenly came to a press conference and pulled out a paper. We did not know what he was going to do with it.

“It was the day before the game and before our meeting, and he opened up on Alex Ferguson from all directions. He said we were sure we would not win because Ferguson controls the referees.

“We came to the players’ meeting afterwards. Gerrard and Carragher told him, ‘Don’t you understand that what you have done now will rouse them (United) and this is what will happen until the end?’.

“From that moment on, we suddenly had a draw here and a draw there. Suddenly, we started thinking about referees. These are against us, and these are against us. We made some draws and they (United) passed us.

“I I scor scored a goal and we beat Fulham in th the 94th minute a and we went up to first place. The next day U United hosted As Aston Villa. They were losing 1-2 after 80 minutes. But Macheda made it 3-2 to United. So we knew it was impossible to overtake them.”

Benayoun also claimed that “murderous beatings” were commonplace in English football.

He added: “I saw players in training fighting like crazy, beatings in the locker room at half time. Nothing came out. There were murderous beatings between players in senior teams. The tables flew up to the sky.”
