TWO HUGE YEARS... I’M IN A HARRY

WHEN Harry Kane decided to stay in the Bahamas and face up to a fortnight’s quarantine, he had plenty of time to look to the challenges ahead.

And the first thing he saw on the horizon was a two-year spell that could define his career.

The European Championship, a World Cup, and a period when a big-name club manager needs to deliver for his team.

Quite simply, Kane knows he needs to start leading sides to trophies to lift his standing to another level.

“I am 27 and there are two massive tournaments coming up in two years and it is a real opportunity to win something with England,” he declared.

“In my head, I have many more years to come but these next two are really important.”

Eyebrows were raised when

Kane stayed in the Bahamas for eight days after the islands had been put on the quarantine list.

It meant he missed the start of Tottenham’s pre-season preparations but Kane, who said getting home immediately would have caused logistical problems, claimed he is ready to fire on all cylinders.

The England captain explained: “It wasn’t ideal but you have to adapt to it and get on with it. In training I’ve felt fine, I feel sharp and I’m ready to go. I don’t think it’s done me any harm having an extra week away.

“I guess time will tell but I know one thing – I’m ready for the season, I’m excited for the season, I’m feeling as good as I have for a while. I felt really sharp in the last nine games with Spurs and another few weeks’ rest and a couple of weeks’ quarantine has left me itching to get back. My body is in a good place.”

After returning from the injury he sustained on New Year’s Day to take part in Tottenham’s Project Restart games, Kane seems to have been developing a rapport with Jose Mourinho, who has suggested he can take the striker to the sort of rarefied territory occupied by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Jose has been great so far. Hopefully we can fight for t he Pr e m i e r League,” Kane said.

“The manager can help but it is about where the team goes and about me personally.”

That is clearly key for Kane.

Ahead of the Nations League

Live on Sky Sports Main Event, KO 5pm meeting with Iceland, Kane spoke about England team-mate Harry Maguire. “We back

‘H’ all the way and we look forward to seeing him in the October camp.”

Kane spoke about Mason Greenwood. “He’s got them all. Left foot, right foot, inside of the foot, powerful shots. That shows a complete goalscorer.”

Kane spoke about how this England team is in a far better shape than the one which was humiliated by tonight’s opponents at Euro 2016.

“That was four years ago and a lot has changed since then.”

But Kane knows so much focus, with club and country, will be on him in the immediate and near future. He knows the next two years could define his career.
