Time to be a Wise guy

-

IT should pay to take WISE COUNSEL (4.15) in the Porsche Handicap.

Trainer Clive Cox looks to have a good chance of winning Haydock’s Betfair Sprint Cup with Golden Horde and I think he’ll also be among the winners at Ascot.

Wise Counsel won twice over 7f last season and he made a really promising return when third over a furlong shorter in a Goodwood Listed race in June.

A tardy start did him no favours over the shorter trip as he found himself at the back of the field in a race dominated by prominently-ridden runners.

This will be more suitable and his high draw in stall 15 should be a help. Have 1pt each-way at 12-1.

The force appears to be with DARK JEDI (2.50) in Haydock’s Betfair Old Borough Cup.

Tim Easterby’s hope improved for the step up to 1m4f when runner-up at York two weeks ago.

He shaped like he would enjoy today’s even longer distance and he moved really smoothly on soft ground when successful at Hamilton earlier in the season.

His fourth behind Sinjaari in the John Smith’s Cup at York in July showed he is still fairly handicapped so, if the trip does extract a bit more, he has to have a fine chance.

Have 1pt each-way at 14-1.

Easterby also has a great chance with MIKMAK (4.35). He loves deep ground as he showed when successful over course and distance on heavy last season.

His third at Ripon on Tuesday should have set him up for today as he goes well when turned out quickly and he is really well weighted.

Have 1pt to win at 7-1.
