Lockdown fears dividing R nation
■ PLEASE let’s not play into Boris Johnson’s hands by blaming each other for the surge in Covid infections. That is exactly what this Tory Government wants us to do.
Instead let us put the blame fairly and squarely where it belongs – on the shoulders of Boris Johnson, Dominic Cummings and the rest of their administration.
Had we remained in a strict national lockdown for another month or so, we might have had a chance of defeating the virus. But, no, Johnson brought us out too quickly to save Cummings after his trip to Durham and Barnard Castle caused public consternation.
Make no mistake, the only thing the Prime Minister cares about is his own political survival. John Bainbridge, Penrith, Cumbria
■ Nobody can say they weren’t warned if a second national lockdown is forced upon us. With the ‘R’ rate rising, there was little option but for the PM to act in a way that shocks people into following the guidance.
But after seeing pictures of people rushing to the pubs and nightclubs for one last blowout, they just don’t listen or learn earn (Mirror, Sept 14).
If we do go into lockdown 2.0, it will be on the heads of those who thought they were immune ne to the worst of it. A UK death h toll of more than 41,600 isn’t n’t a hoax or a control exercise. ise. Ashley Smith March, Cambs
■ If the UK does go into nto a second lockdown it will not be because of the people but because of a government that tells them to get back to work, use public transport and go to pubs and restaurants and opens schools and universities without an effective testing and tracing system. And all the while directing taxpayer money to firms run by their Tory chums.

■ What on earth are Boris Johnson and his cronies up to? Can’t they see the infection rate will continue to rise as long as people are allowed to crowd into pubs and restaurants without masks? The ridiculous rule of six still allows people to pack into venues under the pretence of being a party of six. Bill Atkinson Washington

■ Why is it that many people are moaning about the Government’s new rules? Do they not comprehend the reason?
We all know many, many members of the public completely flouted the guidelines to gather in large groups and ignore social distancing. These are the fools we should all be angry with as the virus makes a resurgence.

■ When we went into lockdown back in March it was said it felt like we were fighting a war against an invisible enemy.
Our young knuckled down and followed the rules in order to protect their country and elders but now some of that age group wont won’t do anythin anything to protect their parents or gran grandparents who are far more suscep susceptible to the virus. Mike George, Big Biggleswade, Beds
■ I am afraid the Government lost the moral high ground over the rules when they t supported Cummings’ l lockdown trip to Durham and Barnard Castle and greeted each other with hugs in the House and Cabin Cabinet meetings witho without respecting social d distancing.
