Maddie suspect’s lawyer: I’d never let him near my kids
But he claims he’s found ‘big’ new info
THE lawyer for Madeleine McCann prime suspect Christian Brueckner has said he would not let him look after his children.
Friedrich Fuelscher admitted his paedophile client’s record was bad.
But he also revealed he made a secret visit to Praia da Luz in Portugal last week to carry out inquiries – and has some “big” new information.
Brueckner is the chief suspect in the three-year-old’s 2007 disappearance after police said mobile phone records placed him in the town on the evening she vanished.
But despite Brueckner protesting his innocence, Mr Fuelscher said: “I’d let him look after my dogs but I wouldn’t let him look after my children or my daughter – if I had them.
“He could be my dogsitter, yes, but because of his record I would not let him look after my own daughter.”
Mr Fuelscher said of his visit to the Algarve: “I attempted to make my own conclusions on the sources of information available.”
And claiming he has new information to reveal in coming weeks, he added: “I cannot tell you what it is – but it is big. It certainly surprised me.”
Fuelscher also said life has changed since taking on 43-year-old Brueckner as a client. He said: “I don’t sleep as well as I used to. I’ve had threats – lots, some of them death threats.”
Bruecker has been convicted of rape, child sex abuse and having child sex images. He is currently serving a sentence in Kiel, Germany, for drugs offences.
But Mr Fuelscher claimed some articles in the German and British press had been misleading, particularly on his conviction for the rape of an OAP in Praia da Luz two years before Madeleine vanished.
He said: “One of the mistakes is saying there is a film of the rape. That is not true. And the prosecution are using two dubious witnesses to help their case.”
Brueckner is appealing the rape conviction and a ruling is due to be released next Thursday.
