HAPPY LIVING AS A WOMAN IN LOCKDOWN

-

Dear Coleen

I’m a 28-year-old gay guy and very feminine in looks and personality.

When lockdown happened, I’d just got a new boyfriend and spent five months in lockdown with him. I also lived completely in a female role during that time, putting on a nice skirt and tights in the morning and feeling like a true woman.

Now things are getting back to normal, I hate that I’m having to return to my old ways and hide things from people.

I want to be that woman again every day.

Can you advise?

Coleen says

Well, I guess the time in lockdown has made you realise who you are. Look, it’s easy for me to sit here and say: “Don’t hide who you are – be who you want to be”, but I know it’s not that straightforward.

If a friend of mine told me this, I’d be saying: “How can I support you?”, and, “Let’s go shopping!”

In reality, there might be people in your life who don’t have that attitude. Your boyfriend is obviously comfortable with it and accepts you 100%, so why not start by telling him and asking if you have his support?

If you’ve decided you want to dress as a woman or you want to transition, then you’ll feel more in control and more confident if you arm yourself with information and get in touch with support groups.

But the bottom line is, if people can’t accept you for who you are, then you don’t need them in your life. There will be others who do accept you and will stand by you, and those are the ones you should focus on. Good luck.
