AN exhausted care home chef took an hour off work to place a 50p bingo bet... and scooped £50,000 in the most amazing circumstances.

Donna Brookhouse’s six numbers were the first six out of the hat – at odds of around 14 million to one.

She had staff at bookies Betfred in hysterics when she celebrated the jackpot by hopping on a table to dance.

Donna, 52, said: “I just couldn’t help myself. It’s something I have wanted to do all my life. I used to dance around my handbag in my teens. It is not every day you win so much.

“I was putting in all the extra hours I could. That’s why I got on the wobbly table to dance with joy.”

She added: “I can’t wait for the holidays which we can now afford. It couldn’t have come at a better time with me doing 80-odd hours a week at work.”

Donna reckons the first port of call will be Greece or Las Vegas.

Her overtime at the nursing home was to buy daughter Bobbie-Jo, 20, a new laptop as she starts childcare studies at university. Donna and partner Russ Cox, 43, a youth offender worker, will also splash some of the cash on following rugby league side Warrington Wolves.

The couple, from the town in Cheshire, dream of having an executive box at the stadium.

Betfred owner Fred Done arranged for the pair to be presented with signed Warrington Wolves shirts and a ball.

Donna is also planning to spend some of the money on repairs at their home after the antics of their mischievous pet labrador.

Donna said: “Our puppy has wrecked the garden, so that can now be sorted out.”

The mum was stunned when her “favourite” numbers – 24, 25, 26, 31, 32 and 33 – just kept being drawn out.

Betfred said: “They were the very first six balls out of the hat, which we worked out makes the odds an incredible 14 million to one.”

I couldn’t help myself – I was dancing with joy
