Kill bill or all trust in UK will vanish

- Edited by FIONA PARKER

■ Either Boris Johnson lied to the electorate and parliament when he talked of an “oven ready” Brexit deal and signed the Withdrawal Agreement last year, or he lied to the EU when signing the deal with the full intention of breaking it.

The only other possibility is that he was negligent and didn’t understand the deal he negotiated.

In any event, the solution is not to break an international treaty but to negotiate a resolution.

Of as much concern is the fact that those who negotiated the Good Friday Agreement believe Johnson’s plans endanger it.

All Tory MPs who support the Government’s proposal should consider the long-term damage to our international standing and the impact on peace in Ireland.

■ I cannot believe my MP, Lee Rowley, voted to support the Internal Market Bill at its second reading. I believe in doing so he has voted to break international law. I wrote to him before the vote asking him to uphold the rule of law but he obviously didn’t listen. Then again, I expect nothing less from a Johnson lackey. The PM says that he has introduced this bill in order to maintain the integrity of the United Kingdom. The only way to maintain that integrity is to get rid of this awful Government which is prepared to override the spirit in which international agreements are signed.

■ If Labour had won the last election and were trying to renege on the signed Withdrawal Agreement, could you imagine the fury that would be emanating from the Tory Party and the right-wing press?

What are the odds that Boris Johnson has instructed chief negotiator David Frost not to reach a deal with the EU who will then, of course, be branded the bad guys?

■ Both failed former prime ministers Tony Blair and John Major need to keep quiet about Brexit. They have, as usual, got it wrong. What needs to get done is being done by Boris Johnson.

The EU has done nothing but make it difficult for us to leave and the person who really let us down was Theresa May who failed to get a deal. We must stand up for this country – we’ll find it’s worth it in the long run.

Valerie Turrell, Rochford, Essex

■ It seems Boris Johnson is determined we exit the EU without a deal, something I think he intended from the beginning.

He is acting more like a dictator every day and now he’s prepared to go against international law and risk criticism and ridicule, even from the USA.

He talks about integrity but where is his? In these days of the pandemic we need all our friends, and sadly, we are losing them fast.
