A YOUNG lad has been inspired by campaigning footie star Marcus Rashford to help struggling families.

Jack Lees, seven, has written to the sportsman to talk about foodbanks – and even cheekily urged the Manchester United forward to move to Spurs.

England player Rashford, 22, is leading a campaign to feed the UK’s 4.2 million hungry children.

Jack’s letter says: “I love all the work you’ve done, some amazing things to help families who need it.

“You have inspired me because you’re so thoughtful and helped children through the hardest times of their life.

“You make me want to help others and be a better person. Because of you, we will donate more food to foodbanks and our toys and clothes to charity to help other families.”

Jack signs off by adding: “Can you please join Spurs? Thank you for everything you do.” Rashford, who is from Wythenshawe, Manchester, replied by saying: “Thank you for your lovely letter. Really made me smile tonight.

“Keep being kind. That’s what makes the world go round.”

He has won support for his campaign from celebs, MPs and food companies. Rashford also forced a government U-turn to allow 1.3 million children to claim free school meal vouchers in the summer holidays.

He said this week: “I sat and listened while a mum of three who has worked her entire life sobbed her heart out to me.

“She has lost her job during Covid and has no idea how she’s going to feed her children.

“Looking ahead... there are going to be many more like her. This is a bigger pandemic than Covid. These parents aren’t sleeping counting down the days to October half term, Xmas holidays... these parents, their children, need our help.”
