Let’s do this together

The Dark Lord has revealed she’s very unhappy with her new senior school. Yes, apparently, they’re “too nice and smiley all the time”. “Monsters!” I exclaimed.

“How could they do this to you? I will ring them immediately and expose their barbarity to all the world. What other scandalous treatment have you suffered at their cruel hands?”

“Er… you’re not taking this seriously, are you? I cry every day and you just don’t care,” she sniffled, wiping her completely dry eyes.

There comes a time in every parent’s life when they realise they’ve been had, and this was my moment of clarity.

“I’ll have that, thank you,” I said, grabbing her phone before she had a chance to hide it.

“And it’s not coming back until your behaviour improves.

“And you can stop faking illness at school,” I added sternly.

“Your teacher heard you singing Frozen songs at the top of your voice after you’d gone to see the nurse. You’re not fooling anyone any more.”

“That’s a lie,” she yelled back. “It was Wicked The Musical!”

I’m a massive David Bowie fan, so I’m delighted to be able to hang this really moving pencil drawing by Abi Lane in our gallery today.

Not only is her work far beyond her years, but 15-year-old Abi from Wideopen, Newcastle upon Tyne, is a bit younger than your typical Bowie fan.

“I grew up with music from the 70s and 80s,“explains Abi. “Bowie’s a great inspiration to many people and I want his music and memory to live on for many years.

“I’ve been drawing for about a year but since lockdown I’ve been challenging myself to draw different celebrities and pets. My inspiration is mainly being encouraged by my friends and family.

“This drawing of David Bowie is my favourite so far. I love my hobby!” All I can say is there’s been some excellent parenting going on in the Lane household.

If you would like to see your artwork hung in our gallery, send a photo of yourself and your work, your age and address and tell us what inspires you to siobhan.mcnally@ mirror.co.uk
