CHRIS NOT WILD OVER FINISHING

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

CHRIS WILDER believes Sheffield United must be more clinical and confirmed Jack O’Connell could miss the rest of the season following knee surgery.

The Blades boss felt his team created enough chances to wwin before Patrick BaBamford snatched victory for Marcelo Bielsa’s

That made it no popoints and no goals from three league games, and boss Wilder (above) said: “I disagree with Marcelo’s opinion that they deserved to win.

“It was a tight Yorkshire derby and I think we had the better chances - Oli McBurnie’s header, Jack Robinson late on and two chances in the first half for John Lundstram and George Baldock.

“We have to score those and get the first goal because the first goal is huge.”

Wilder revealed key defender O’Connell needed the operation because he was hampered by a persistent knee problem and has given the Blades board a list of targets to replace him.

“That’s a huge blow for the football club and for Jack O’Connell,” he said. “He could not get back to his best level because of his knee and we decided he needed surgery.”

Bamford admitted his third goal in three league games for Leeds was not the header it first appeared.

“It came off my nose,” said the striker. “But I’ll take it. I was disappointed I didn’t score off a header which went over in the first half.

“I said to Jack Harrison that every time he got the ball I’d go between the last two centre-halves and to play it there. Fair play to him, he put it on the money.”

Leeds boss Bielsa said: “There are always individuals who impact on the result of the game and in the case of Bamford, he is making our attacking game very good.”
