DEMORALISED DYCHE’S SOS

‘If we can get players in we need to’

- BY NEIL GOULDING

SEAN DYCHE is desperate to bolster Burnley’s injuryravaged squad with some fresh faces.

The crisis-hit Clarets named four youngsters with no Premier League experience on the bench for their frustrating home defeat to the Saints, as they search for their first points of the campaign.

“We are as stretched as we have ever been since I have been there,” admitted Dyche. “We are short of six or seven players who are very experienced and important tant players.

“I would be very surprised prised if we have any back for the he next two games.

“We have to be careful ul and not bring them back too o soon. Every game in the e Premier League is important, but we don’t t want to risk players that t could see them out for even longer.

“It is more a case of bad luck than anything. . We got through pre-season and we are just getting injury after injury. ry.

“That makes the challenge even harder and we don’t have any training ing time either because it is s game after game.

“You don’t have time e to mould the team and work ork with them because you are recovering, playing, recovering.

“We need to get players back. Hopefully the international break will help get players nearer to fitness.

“If we can work in the transfer market we need to do that, but it’s not my decision.”

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl believes his side can kick on after getting the first win under their belt.

“The first points are always important,” he said. “We showed in the last game a good 45 minutes, but this was longer and very consistent.

“We defended well and deserved to win, the pressure was getting up and we can still do better.

“To win at

Burnley is not so easy. The way they play is definitely something that is tough to defend and we did it really well with a lot of energy.

“We had a good performance, especially against the ball and out of possession. We had a non-existent pre-season and couldn’t prepare for the first game.

“It wasn’t a good start, but we have focused our work this week. Suddenly it looks different and more organised – and that is the key to winning.

“We tried to play more, keep the ball on the ground and protect our goal.”

Hot-shot Danny Ings (left) got the Saint Saints off to a flyer on five minutes when he slotted home after C Che Adams perfectly placed pla cut-back.

It should h have been two when an unm unmarked Adams blazed over a after Ryan Bertrand pick picked him out.

Wood had a header brilliantly sav saved by Alex McCarthy as the Clarets stepped up t the pressure.

The Burnle Burnley frontman then had a goal ch chalked off for offside on 5 56 minutes after he latched on o to a woeful Kyle Walker Walker-Peters backpass.

McCarth McCarthy superbly beat away a fier fierce Charlie Turner s shot on the hour.
