CITY ARE UNITED!

Rowe says boss Holden has Robins fighting as one now

- BY RICHARD LATHAM

TOMMY ROWE says “unity and commitment” are Bristol City’s by-words under new boss Dean Holden.

And the Robins wing-back, whose 59th- minute goal changed the game against Sheffield Wednesday, sees no reason why his team-mates can not build on their ir flying start to the season. n.

Three wins from m as many league e games and a place at the top represent a dream start for Holden, who succeeded d

Lee Johnson this is summer having in g worked previously y as his No.2. He has strengthened the squad with some shrewd signings, but Rowe insists there is more behind his immediate impact in the hot-seat.

Rowe (celebrating, above) said: “We all see the way the gaffer goes about his business on a daily basis and know what he wants from us. He wants us all to be proud to play for Bristol City and give everything for the badge.

“There is a tremendous unity about the place and the players he has brought in, such as Alfie Mawson and Chris Martin, are natural leaders.

“No one will be getting carried away by three games. But we believe in each other and that we are building something special.”

Rowe latched on to Martin’s downward header to fire City in front from close range. Kadeem Harris had the best opportunity for the Owls, but failed to make a clear connection with a bouncing ball.

And City wrapped up the points in stoppage time, Jamie Paterson ( bottom, left) cutting in and curling a shot into the far corner. It meant a first league defeat of the season for Wednesday as they battle a 12- point deduction for breaching financial rules.

But they contributed plenty to a competitive clash and manager Garry Monk was far from downhearted. “We were the better si side in the first half and created some cha chances,” he said.

“When you do t that and fail to take them you know that good teams are going to c come back at you at some stage. ““Now it is all about how we react to our f first df defeat. A lot of things were wrong last season and one of them was that we didn’t respond well to setbacks.

“Anyone who watches us can see we are playing better. But we have to become consistent.”

Robins chief Holden was determined to keep his feet firmly on the ground.

“Particularly with Covid-19 causing so much distress, I would not want to deprive our supporters of something to smile about,” he said.

“But inside the club the feeling is only to focus fully on the next game.”
