STRUBER BULL-ISH OVER MLS RUMOURS

- BY ROSS HEPPENSTALL

GERHARD STRUBER could be about to quit Barnsley for the New York Red Bulls – and defender Mads Andersen can see why his boss is a wanted man.

The highly-rated Austrian’s reputation has soared after his stunning success in guiding the Tykes to Championship safety last term.

Significantly, a buy-out clause exists in his Oakwell contract, with one report claiming he has agreed a three-year deal with the MLS outfit. Struber (above) remained coy about a move stateside after this dismal stalemate, but Andersen admitted there was something special about the 43-year-old.

The Danish centre-half said: “I like Gerhard as a coach. He has been very good for my career. He comes with a lot of energy for us in each game and it is very important for us.

“But whatever happens with Gerhard, I cannot focus on that, so I will just focus on doing my job.”

When asked about his future, Struber said: “Some clubs have interest in me and this is an honour, but I am head coach here and I like working in Barnsley.”

Coventry came closest to victory when Leo Ostigard’s early header hit the underside of the crossbar.

Sky Blues chief Mark Robins said: “Any point away from home is a good point in the Championship.”
