Klopp fears for safety of his stars

- BY CHRIS McKENNA

JURGEN KLOPP has concerns over coronavirus measures for Liverpool’s international stars next week. And the Reds boss admits he would have liked more information from some national bodies on their Covid-19 protocols. Klopp (above) will wave off his big names after tomorrow’s clash with

Aston Villa, as they jet off to Europe, South America and Africa. And he said: “I don’t want to sound disrespectful, as we don’t know too much about what other countries are doing.

“If your son or daughter is asked to travel abroad, there or there, you might say you’re not sure if that’s the right moment. It’s a bit like that with footballers. I’m not saying this is the safest place in the world, but it’s the place we know at least.

“I am slightly concerned. It’s difficult to get in contact with all FAs, all over the world. I understand 100 per cent the demands on FAs, UEFA and FIFA. I know how difficult the situation is for everybody. But it’s not exactly perfect.” Klopp also has the added pressure of ensuring his stars are back in training and tested ahead of a lunchtime kick-off with Everton on October 17, and he believes the Premier League and TV broadcasters do not care.

He added: “We send the players away, the Premier League and the TV broadcasters give us a challenge a lot, because they don’t care if our players play on Wednesday night in Peru, for example. They still think it’s a good idea to let us play on Saturday, pretty early.”
