Tributes to murdered mum and girl as two men are arrested

TRIBUTES have been paid to a dedicated doctor found murdered alongside her young daughter.

Both women were sexually assaulted and their semi-detached home was torched after their deaths.

The bodies of Dr Saman Mir Sacharvi, 49, and her daughter, Vian Mangrio, 14, were found by police inside their house in Burnley, Lancs, last Thursday.

A post- mortem on Dr Sacharvi showed she died from pressure to her neck and that she was also assaulted.

Tests have shown Vian, a pupil at Marsden Heights School in Nelson, was badly burnt, but officials have not yet determined the cause of her death.

Two men from Burnley, aged 51 and 56, have been arrested on suspicion of two counts of murder, two of rape and one of arson with intent to endanger life.

Dr Sacharvi had ad been a junior doctor with Lancashire ncashire and South Cumbria NHS Founspecia­list Foundation Trust’s specialist perinatal community mmunity mental health team. eam.

Lead consultant nt Gill Strawas Strachan said: “She was empathic and well-liked by y the women and families she e worked with.

Her colleagues described her as very kind, brilliant and a joy to work with. During lockdown, she went out of her way to support the care of women, personally delivering prescripti­ons to women isolating at home.

“The team are shocked and saddened and she will be greatly missed.”

Floral tributes continue to be left outside the family home. One card read: “RIP Gorgeous. You did not deserve this. Thank you for everything you have done for me and made me a better person.”

Another message said: “May some good love come out of this horrendous crime. May people learn tolerance. My thoughts and prayers are with you both. Stupid, stupid. So sad, bad, wrong.”

Vian’s school paid an emotional tribute to the “outstandin­g student”.

Alyson Littlewood, head of Marsden Heights Community College in Nelson, Lancs, said: “We are shocked and heartbroke­n. Vian had that wonderful mix of academic abil ability coupled with an enthusias enthusiasm for everything else that sc school can offer.

“She was extremely supportive ortive of her he friends, generous ous to all and had a smile that could fill a room. We will miss he her every day.”
