Hey Tracey!, ITV2: ★★★

- IAN HYLAND on last night’s telly

One question was left unanswered as this celebrity gameshow returned last night. When host Joel Dommett told Megan McKenna “You won Celebrity X Factor: That’s big news!”, was that:

A) Proof that Joel is now officially a member of the “ITV Family” and knows which side his bread is buttered? Or B) Proof that when it comes to straight-faced sarcasm Joel is an iron fist in a velvet glove. I’d like to think it was B. Similarly, when Joel told Made In Chelsea’s Mark Francis-Vandelli, “Because you’re posh, it sounds like you know everything” I assured myself it was his subtle take on how we’ve come to find ourselves governed by the likes of Boris Johnson and Jacob Rees-Mogg.

Then again, perhaps that was expecting too much of a lightweight late-night ITV2 gameshow in which two teams of low-level celebs are tasked with cold calling members of the public with silly quiz questions.

It’s not as easy a task as you might imagine.

Out of seven calls, the celebrities received two hang-ups and one rather brusque “I’m not that interested.”

Still, at least they now know how their agents feel when they are ringing around trying to land them some work.

The celebs also struggled with the comedy side of their task.

Well, unless your idea of humour is phoning an English tutor and asking them how to spell the word beaver using the NATO phonetic alphabet.

The tutor showed commendable good grace. I’d have been tempted to simply answer “Golf, Romeo, Oscar, Whiskey, Uniform, Papa.”
