JOSE: TROPHIES DEFINE WINNERS
JOSE MOURINHO claims he does not know if his Tottenham squad have a trophy-winning mentality – despite their emphatic 6-1 win at Manchester United.
Tottenham’s historic win at Old Trafford (above) made it seven games unbeaten in all competitions for Mourinho’s side and took them to sixth in the Premier League table.
Spurs have not won a trophy since the League Cup in 2008, with Mourinho admitting his players still need to prove to him they can deliver silverware.
“I don’t know if we can win a trophy or not,” said Mourinho (below). “I know we are working very hard and well, for a long time, since we arrived.
“This season, obviously Mr Levy and the structure of the he club gave us a much improved squad and our objective is to win n every match.
“Of course we’re not going to, we’re going to lose, like we lost against nst Everton, and draw, like e we did against
Newcastle.
“But the target, the objective, is every match we go to win. I told the players in the last couple of days, 1,000 times, a good result at Old Trafford is to win.
“Of course, if you draw it’s not a bad result, but that’s the kind of mentality we must get. It was a great performance, a great result.
“We have seven points, so our position in the table is so-so.” Mourinho refused to compare his Spurs team to the side he had at United, which won the League Cup and Europa League in his two-and-ahalf year spell at Old Trafford. He added: “The team I had at United won three trophies – the Europa League, one domestic cup and the Community Shield.
“In this moment we’ve won nothing, so I’m not going to compare a team that won nothing with a team that won three trophies. “But I’m very happy with the squad that I have. Only that squad could win three matches in five days days.
“That’s why I said against Chelsea th that the squad won, not the guys who were on the p pitch. The same aga against Maccabi Haifa and the same against Un United.
“It’s a squad and the squad has lots of options and lots of good players, especially in the attacking areas.”
