Giggs is crying out for Ramsey and Bale goals

- BY JAMES NURSEY @JamesNursey

WALES were missing almost half a century of goals last night.

With no Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey at Wembley, the visitors were short of their usual firepower. Record-scorer Bale, who has 33 goals, was absent while getting fit for his new club Spurs. And Ramsey, who has 16 international goals, is due to fly in today from Italian club Juventus, where he has been kept in an extended bubble.

Ramsey is back for Sunday’s

Nations League tie against the Republic of Ireland. And how Giggs (inset) will be pleased to have the former Arsenal attacking midfielder back. Jonny Williams tried to link play in the No.10 role but he is yet to start for Charlton this season. It was a feature of Giggs’ side that several players such as Rabbi Matondo, keeper Wayne Hennessey, Joe Morrell,

Ethan Ampadu and Neco Williams are not regular club starters either.

The rustiness was perhaps a factor in the first half when Wales had more possession but failed to create many clear-cut chances.

Jack Grealish brutally showed how it was done when he bamboozled their defence and gave Dominic Calvert-Lewin a straightforward header for the opener.

Often Wales’ final ball was lacking as Kieffer Moore (top) made several decent runs before hobbling off. In his absence Leeds forward Tyler Roberts pushed up from the flank.

After Conor Coady made it 2-0, Matondo sprung clear but was flagged offside before hitting the post.

Danny Ings later netted too as Wales’ unbeaten eight-match run ended.

How Giggs must long for the day again when he can play Ramsey,29, and Bale,31, in tandem.

It has rarely happened and though Wales have plenty of exciting young talent, there is no one to match Ramsey and Bale.
