IN DEM-AND BUT NO SIR, HE’S GOING NOWHERE

- BY IAN BAKER

DARREN FERGUSON has warned Premier League clubs hunting last-gasp transfer business that only a mega offer will persuade him to part with his star player Siriki Dembele.

The speedy Ivorian was brilliant as Peterborough took Nene derby honours.

And with top-flight clubs still able to sign EFL players until the end of the week, it ought to be a nervy time for Posh fans on the evidence of this stunning individual display. West Brom have been considering a bid for Dembele all summer but Ferguson is convinced his side are not in danger of losing their prized asset so soon after selling Ivan Toney to Brentford.

When asked if he has any concerns over Dembele’s future, the Peterborough boss bluntly replied: “No!

“It would have to be one hell of an offer. We are not concerned at all.”

Dembele (above) proved impossible to play against and provided the 33rd-minute opener for Nathan Thompson with a delightful pass before Reece Brown finished things off with a powerful drive 10 minutes from the end to put Posh in the top six.

Defender Dan Butler said: “I dread playing against Dem in training. For a defender he’s a nightmare to play against.

“He’s a joy to play with. He could be the difference between staying in this division and going up. It was the same with Ivan last year, he was unplayable at this level and Dem has started to show that too.”

Northampton have now lost three straight games 2-0 as they struggle in League One.

But forward Danny Rose said: “We have a good squad and believe we could upset a few teams.”
