Woman warned police after earlier attack that toxic relationship would end in disaster
A WOMAN who grinned after stabbing her lover to death in front of friends has been jailed for 10 years.
Cordelia Farrell, 38, knifed Wayne Coventry, 36, after they argued at his brother’s house in October last year.
They were said to be in a “toxic” and “abusive” relationship, “characterised by violence and jealousy”.
And the killing came just weeks after Farrell bit Mr Coventry’s testicles and twisted them “in a vicelike grip” during a savage attack – then told police: “It’s getting worse and one of us is going to end up dead”, the court heard.
The court was told that before the initial attack in September, Farrell tried to
“wind up” Mr Coventry by watching YouTube music videos of her ex-boyfriend.
And Dayfdd Enoch QC, prosecuting, said she had previously been heard to say:
“I’m going to kill him.”
Mr Enoch said of the knifing: “In front of three witnesses this defendant [took] a kitchen knife and turned to Wayne Coventry.
“She raised the knife up high and brought it down in a classic stabbing motion, and plunged it deep into his chest.
It
went in 9cm. It went straight into his aorta. He didn’t stand a chance. He died within a minute or two.”
Mr Enoch said one of the witnesses, Tony Marks, said: “She smiled as she pulled the knife out and grinned as if she was pleased in what she had just done.” Mr Enoch said: “She deliberately and maliciously stabbed him. It’s no coincidence the defendant was to say to police a month before, when arrested for assault, that one of them would end up dead. “How right she was in that prophecy.” The dad of three was found dead at the house in Bromsgrove, Worcs, on October 14. Farrell, of Birmingham, fled but handed herself in on October 19. At Worcester crown court, she was cleared of murder but found guilty of manslaughter. Judge James Burbidge QC said: “People close to you and him soon realised it was a toxic relationship likely to end in some sort of catastrophe and that is exactly what it did.” Farrell also got 18 months for the other attack, to run concurrently with her manslaughter term.
