Let’s do this together

The Dark Lord broke up early this week for halfterm but she hasn’t actually left her bedroom yet. It’s been a tough few months for her with a new school, so I thought she may as well get some extra rest.

I’d been leaving food outside her room like offerings to the ancient gods who clearly like cucumbers and carrots cut into batons and mini chipolatas.

But finally my curiosity got the better of me so I had a peek and saw that her room was bathed in a strange green light – she was lying in bed with her laptop and wearing a set of headphones.

She started yelling at me. “No, no, don’t let the chickens into our SMP. Halt – who goes there? Are you looking for server 666?”

“What chickens?” I asked, looking behind me in case I had actually let farmyard animals into the room. At least that would have explained the smell.

“No, not you, Mum. I’m talking to Nina on my server – she’s in Australia,” then she turned back to her live game and I backed out saying, “Well in that case it’s past Nina’s bedtime,” as she glared at me.

Later she told me: “I’m building a server on Minecraft and playing with other people in survival mode.

“Some chickens just crossed my bridge when you came in,” she added, as if it’s a daily occurrence. At least I knew where I was with the chickens in Old MacDonald’s farm – this is a whole new game.
