Why Robbo wiped the floor with me at Ajax

JURGEN KLOPP has paid a special tribute to Andy Robertson by revealing details of a ferocious bust-up between the pair.

Robertson, who will tonight make his 100th Premier League appearance for the Reds, is already rated one of the best leftbacks in Liverpool’s history.

And Klopp (top) had a huge grin on his face when he said that the Scotland captain’s passion makes him a joy to work with, even if it can sometimes be explosive.

“Great! Mr Robertson, 100 Premier League games for Liverpool. He has really established himself,” said Klopp ahead of tonight’s clash with Sheffield United at Anfield. “I really, really like him as a person and I really like working with him because he’s a brilliant character and a super player.

“I think we had a few words on the touchline against Ajax in Amsterdam on Wednesday – I was shouting at him like a devil and Robbo’s character means he cannot hold back.

“But when the game is over it’s all fine. So long as you keep yourself together, it’s all good.”

The Amsterdam incident came as Liverpool fought to defend a

1-0 lead in their opening Champions League group match. And Klopp, revealing amusing details of the barney, said Robertson (above) paid the price for being the closest player to his dugout.

The Kop boss, explaining why he got so worked up during the game, said: “It was not about exchanging information, I was trying to kick their a***s.

“Robbo got a proper knock on his chest so it was difficult for him to breathe. Human beings are like that. You feel a bit sorry for yourself and someone needs to tell you ‘you can talk about that after the final whistle.’ And that was my job.

“Unfortunately for Robbo, he was the nearest player to me. I shouted at him as loud as I shout to Shaqiri on the other side of the pitch and obviously there was a reaction!”

Liverpool won both matches against Sheffield United last term without conceding a goal but were given a real scare in the fixture at Bramall

Lane, a late Gini Wijnaldum goal giving them a 1-0 win

Klopp could welcome back three big names against the

Blades tonight, with keeper

Alisson joining Thiago and Joel

Matip back in training.
