Tottenham’s special striker goes under the radar behind Kane and Bale but Mourinho says: He deserves more attention..and a new contract
JOSE MOURINHO reckons Heung-min Son deserves both a new Tottenham contract and more headlines for being such “an incredible kid”.
The South Korean came off the bench to score his ninth goal in six games in the 3-0 defeat of LASK in the Europa League on Thursday.
Son has always been overshadowed in the Premier League by Harry Kane – and now Gareth Bale – though he is a superstar in Asia.
But Mourinho (with Son, below), who takes his side to Burnley on Monday evening, said: “I would love him to sign a new contract.
“Son has three years left on his contract, so it’s not like we are in an extreme situation of everybody being too worried. I think it’s more a question of Son loving it here.
“But I wish it and he deserves it, and the club knows that. And I believe that sooner or later they will, without any pressure, arrive at a decision. decisio
“Is he world cla class? It’s up to y you to decide. H He cannot do more than what he does.
“Season a after season af after season, Son Sonny is showing how go good he is. “What does he need to do now to go to a next step? Nothing. It is up to you, the media, to do that.
“Or he starts doing s***, socially, and it becomes famous and he becomes the big headlines, because of some weird or silly or naive behaviour.
“Because he’s such an incredible kid also, he is at that level. It’s up to you to tell how good he is.”
On-loan Carlos Vinicius had two assists in an impressive debut in the win over the Austrians.
And his fellow Brazilian, Lucas Moura, said: “He is the kind of player we were missing from the squad, he is a real No.9. For sure he will help us a lot.
“I am happy for him and to have another Brazilian in this club is good for me. He stayed at my home for the first few days and now he has found a house. He has his family with him already.
“He is a very good guy, very humble and I’m happy to have him here with me.”
