Trump: OK, Biden can begin to take over.. but I still didn’t lose
President vows legal challenges will go on
DONALD Trump continued to demand the US election result be overturned last night, despite agreeing to begin the formal transition to Joe Biden taking over as President.
President Trump said he told officials to begin “initial protocols” for a transfer of power “in the best interest of our country”.
Democrats hoped it was a signal President Trump’s bid to subvert the result of the election was ending.
Trump’s administration had held up the process, despite Mr Biden emerging as the clear winner and world leaders recognising him as the next president.
But in a series of tweets yesterday, he continued to call the election a “fraud”.
His lawyers have made lurid claims of coordinated vote tampering. Unable to provide supporting evidence, almost all of the cases were thrown out of court.
On Monday, the state of Michigan certified the result as a victory for Mr
Biden, with Pennsylvania following suit last night – but Trump insisted his legal challenges would go on, tweeting: “We are moving full speed ahead. Will never concede to fake ballots & Dominion.”
Dominion makes vote- counting machines, which Trump’s campaign has claimed are corrupt and unreliable.
The President retweeted Hollywood actor Randy Quaid’s post, which called for the election to be re-run, with only in-person, paper ballots allowed. Later, the President “pardoned” a Thanksgiving turkey in a White House ceremony.
The formal start of the transition process means President-elect Biden can receive intelligence briefings. Introducing his new national security nominees, he said they show that “America is strongest when it works with its allies”.
Former presidential candidate John Kerry will be his special climate envoy.
