‘LOADS OF CASH & NO PRESSURE’

-

active than anybody’s after an outlay of around £250million in the summer. Mourinho’s other former club Manchester United were also among the top spenders after splashing £87m – easily eclipsing Spurs’ outlay.

Which is why it amazes Mourinho (with Chelsea boss Lampard, above) he is talked up as a title challenger while rivals, such as his former er protege and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, get off scot-free.

“When I was in these clubs, there was huge pressure on me and nd now there is not huge pressure on the coaches of these teams,” said Mourinho. “Put a little bit of pressure on them and leave us in peace, doing our job.”

But Lampard hit back at Mourinho’s claims about pressure by insisting it is the same for every manager – including the Tottenham boss.

Lampard said: “We all have pressures as managers, not just myself and Jose, but any manager.

“Jose was here at Chelsea so he understands it very well. He also went to United and would have understood the pressures there very well when you spend a lot of money.

“If you look at the spending over the last couple of seasons, you will see it has been very similar between Spurs and Chelsea. But the only thing that will get you success is hard work. “The pressures are huge anywayanyway. The pressures at TTottenham will be bbig, because Jose bbuilt a fantastic squad. We are both in the same pposition. We want susuccess and people have expectations and we work towards that.”

When he first arrived in England, Mourinho (with Lampard, inset) was the one splashing the cash, landing the Premier League title at the first, and second, time of asking.

“When you are favourites, you know why.

“And you have to accept that and deal with that kind of pressure and responsibility,” Mourinho added. “But now it’s not for me to deal with that – it’s for others. We just want to win the next match and nothing more than that.”
