REPEATING ‘RIGGED’ ELECTION CLAIMS
DESPERATE Donald Trump yesterday stuck to his claims that the US election was rigged – even suggesting the FBI was involved.
Trump, who is set to leave the White House on January 20, made the bizarre claim in his first TV interview since his defeat was announced.
He ranted to Fox News: “This is total fraud and how – the FBI and Department of Justice, I don’t know, maybe they’re involved – but how people are allowed to get away from this with this stuff is unbelievable.”
The sore loser added in his phone interview: “This election was rigged.”
It came as the US President was likened to “Mad King George” by a White House insider. One of his advisers claimed yesterday that Trump spent election night muttering: “I won. I won. I won.”
Several administration officials told the Washington Post that those around him had declined to tell him Biden had beaten him. “If he thinks he’s won, it’s like, ‘Shh, we won’t tell him’,” one said. In his Fox News interview, the departing President even claimed that “most Democrats” believed that fraud had occurred, and vowed to fight on.
It came despite several high profile members of his own Republican Party accepting rival Joe Biden had won. Trump added: “If Republicans allow it to happen, you’ll never have another Republican elected in the history of this country, at a Senate level or at a presidential level.. or at a House level.” Since the November 3 election, Trump has repeatedly refused to accept defeat, instead mounting a series of legal challenges. Several of these cases have been thrown out, with officials saying there is no evidence to back up his claims.
“They make it like we don’t have evidence, we have evidence all over the place,” Trump insisted – without revealing what this evidence was.
