TYKEING IT ALL IN

BARNSLEY youngster Herbie Kane is keen to learn his trade from the experienced Matty James.

The former L iverpoo l midfielder made his first start for the Tykes in their defeat at Blackburn.

An d th e 22-year-old believes he is already benefiting from playing alongside Leicester loanee James (top, right).

“Matty’s been a big help so far and I’m going to use him to learn when I can. I will take whatever I can,” said Kane, who is keen to continue his progress under the new Barnsley boss Valerien Ismael.

“There’s plenty of competition and quality players when you’re in the Championship, so it was good to get in the team,” he said.

“I have worked hard and d stayed d focused f d and d got my chance. You have to make sure your body is right, you never know when a chance will come.”

Goal s from the d iv i sion’s leading m a r k sma n Al a n Armstrong (below) – who now has 13 – and Sam Gallagher gave Rovers the spoils.

Romal Palmer grabbed a late consolation for the visitors but Ismael was left rueing his side’s missed chances.

“We were good and stable and we have the feeling that we improved our game,” said the Frenchman.

“I told the guys we need the points and we need to punish the opponent by being a killer on the pitch. We have to work on this.”

Rovers manager Tony Mowbray was a relieved man after winning a “scruffy game”. And he stressed his in-form side cannot always l their own way.

Mowbray said: “It was a dangerous stodgy game. Every game we can’t go and have 80 per cent possession like we had for spells at Preston.

“We’ll put the points in the bag and move on to the next one and the next one will be no easier.” That is at home to Mi l lwal l on Wednesday.

Mowb r a y a d d e d : “Millwall have drawn five of their seven away games this season so will be a tough nut to crack, and we’ll look to keep a winning sequence going.”
