-

This step by step guide will make a pretty Rolled Paper Christmas Tree Card by Emily Dawe (emilydawe.com), the author of Paper Christmas (£9.99, published by Search Press).

YOU WILL NEED:

125 x 180mm (5 x 7in) kraft (brown) blank card

150 x 150mm (6 x 6in) patterned/wrapping paper Pencil, scissors or craft knife, cutting mat, ruler, PVA glue and paintbrush.

HOW IT’S DONE:

1

Wrap a 150 x 150mm (6 x 6in) square of patterned paper around your pencil.

TIP Find the grain of your paper and work with it – it will be easier to curl your paper with the grain than against it.

2

Roll the strip of paper tightly around the pencil a few times until you are halfway up the square of paper. Then use a brush to apply a thin line of PVA glue along the edge of the roll. 3

Roll the paper over the glue and hold in place until the glue has adhered.

4

Slide the pencil out of the tube of paper. Then use a craft knife to cut away the excess.

5

Repeat steps 1 to 4 to make 12 of these paper tubes. Cut the tubes to the lengths as shown in the photograph raph below. 6

Arrange the cut tubes ubes in size order on the front t of your blank card. Once you u are happy with the arrangement, nt, use a paintbrush to apply a line of glue on the back of each tube, where the join is. Finally, stick each tube be in place as shown above. e.

TIP Instead of making ng the paper tubes yourself, , you can use paper drinking ng straws cut to size.
