LENNY FACES BIG SALVAGE MISSION NOW

- BY JON WEST

NEIL LENNON is confident he can save Celtic’s season – despite Rangers opening up a 13-point lead at the top of the Premiership.

The Hoops required a late equaliser from Mohamed Elyounoussi (above) to rescue a 1-1 draw at home to St Johnstone after Rangers had won 4-0 at Ross County.

Celtic fans called for Lennon’s sacking a week earlier when County won 2-0 at Parkhead.

The Northern Irish icon survived that and insisted he would soon get the results the supporters craved. Lennon said: “Can I turn it around? Yeah, of course I can.

“Will I get the time to do it? Well, I’ve already been told that the club are with me but it’s a results-driven business and at the minute the results aren’t what they should be.

“The results aren’t good enough. It will improve, I’ve no question of that.”

Chris Kane put Saints ahead but Elyounoussi – Celtic’s fourth sub of the game – headed home with seven minutes remaining.

Kemar Roofe, James Tavernier and Jermain Defoe were on target for Rangers, with County’s Callum Morris scoring an own goal. The game was marred by a booking for home midfielder Michael Gardyne for a comment to Gers striker Alfredo Morelos near half-time.

Gers boss Steven Gerrard said: “What my players are saying they heard, it shouldn’t be heard on a football pitch.

“There’s no place for it. There’s a campaign for this kind of stuff to get it eradicated out of the game.

“I’ll be interested to see how it’s dealt with by the opposition.”

County boss Stuart Kettlewell vowed: “If there is something of a serious nature said then, rest assured, we’ll deal with it.”
