WEYMOUTH FANS FACE SANCTIONS
WEYMOUTH have condemned the fans who “let the club down badly” by flouting Covid-19 rules on their return to the Bob Lucas Stadium.
A section ignored the regulations during the 5-1 thrashing by Halifax and as a result capacity will be cut for tomorrow’s visit of Dagenham and Redbridge.
A club statement said: “While we would like to thank the majority of fans who followed the Covid-19 safe practices, a minority let the club down badly.
“Despite regular requests from volunteers, stewards and the PA announcements, some supporters failed to social distance in some areas of the ground.
“Some supporters brought alcohol into the ground while others ignored the smoking ban.”
A decision on the level of reduction will be made later today following discussions with Dorset Police.
Halifax hit five for the second time in four days, having thumped Barnet 5-2 at The Shay on Wednesday.
Danny Williams (above), Niall Maher, Gevaro Nepomuceno, Thomas Bradbury and Jake Hyde all netted as the Yorkshire side celebrated a first away win since January.
Leaders Torquay extended their unbeaten league run to nine games by beating Wrexham 3-1 in front of almost 1,000 fans.
Asa Hall’s penalty added to Ben Whitfield’s opener and Connor LemonheighEvans made sure of the points after Theo Vassell had pulled one back.
That dented Wrexham’s own promotion hopes, although they are one of three clubs just a point off the play-off slots.
Manager Dean Keates said: “We did not work the keeper. We have hit double figures in shots and attempts and only hit the target once.”
