‘Two-tier’ travel rule a disgrace

- Edited by

I FEEL uncomfortable with so-called “high value” travellers not having to quarantine when returning to England.

To me, and many others I expect, it represents a two-tier system of the ‘ haves’ and ‘ have nots’.

Apparently, we are not all in this fight against the virus together and I fear this is only the start with people not being allowed to access certain places if they have not been vaccinated.

I see no reason why “high value” executives, actors, sports people and the like should be any different to the rest of us.

We are not allowed to travel to different places in the UK but they can go wherever they want with impunity, possibly bringing the virus back with them.

On the day Gavin Williamson announced we are better than many other countries as we were first to approve the Covid- 19 vaccine, the UK Covid death toll topped 60,000.

It is true we have a great at scientific community but we e also have one of the worst st governments to have such ha a high toll.

And now they introduce a scheme to allow the rich and famous to avoid a twoweek quarantine while we lesser mortals will still have to comply.

What planet are these hese ministers on? Much of the North is under Tier 3 restrictions, triceir people are losing their

jobs and can’t afford the next meal, yet Grant Shapps says “high value” travellers won’t have to quarantine when returning to the UK.

Is that because many of them want to go on their skiing trips abroad over the holidays?

Ministers are totally out of touch with ordinary working people and always have been.

Most people just want a few days break in our beautiful country. My wife’s brother lives in Cornwall and we haven’t seen him for over a year.

Just to stand outside in his garden and chat would be enough for us.

It is infuriating and insulting that the Government is to exempt “high value” air passengers from having to quarantine. Most of us are sticking

to the rules as rigidly as we can, yet the rich and famous are given a free pass to travel around and do as they like.

It is time this elitism was stopped. The virus doesn’t discriminate so neither should the rules. They should apply equally to everyone.

Here we go again. Another example of one set of rules for the rich and another for everyone else.

Business people, sports stars, actors and the like will be free to go where they like without having to quarantine but the rest of us can’t visit family and friends in other parts of country. The Government is on another planet.

Guy Bennet, Birmingham

I think it’s fair elite sports athletes, actors, musicians and so forth don’t have to quarantine.

People say we need to get the economy going again and this will help the entertainment sector and film industry which bring in a significant amount of money.

Hopefully, with the vaccine on its way, it won’t be too long before the rest of us can travel.

Lynne Francis, Barnstaple, Devon

I see the Government again, favouring the elite.

I wasn’t aware that travelling business class gave you immunity to Covid-19?
