Bournemouth are league leaders after bore draw

- BY JAMES CANDY

BOURNEMOUTH edged back into pole position in the race for the Premier League despite being held to a goalless draw.

The promotion chasers went toeto-toe with Swansea in an exciting display of attacking football, but defences won the day at the Liberty Stadium.

The stalemate took the Cherries to the top of the Championship table on goal difference but opened the door for Norwich to move three points clear with victory at Nottingham

Forest tonight. Swansea remain a point off the pace in fourth and have a South Wales derby at Cardiff on Saturday.

A defensive injury crisis saw Bluebirds boss Steve Cooper give Joel Latibeaudiere his full debut ut -and and the centre-back passed his test.

Latibeaudiere, 20, had the job of shutting down the division’s second best strike force.

Dominic Solanke had four goals in his previous s five matches for the Cherries, ies, while David Brooks had been in red-hot form since his return from ankle surgery.

The visitors bombarded Swansea early on. Brooks turned away from Matt Grimes and slipped a perfectlyweighted pass into Solanke’s path.

But the £19million striker did not do the superb service justice by firing wildly over.

Brooks was gifted the ball on 21 minutes by Freddie Woodman’s wayward pass, but the Swans keeper scramb scrambled back to block his closerange ran shot behind. Junior Stanislas had a chance moments after the restart when he latched onto a half clearance, but he dragged a volley wide. Bos Jason Tindall ( left) a and the Bournemouth ben bench were on their feet with 20 minutes to play when Latibeaudiere dragged down Brooks in the box, but referee Peter Bankes was unmoved.

And despite no lack of attacking intent, both sides were forced to settle for a share of the points.
