‘We’ve already booked flights and we’re hoping to book more’

-

Piyus Tanna from Northampton has booked a trip to Santorini and Mykonos with his family next year.

“We normally go away a few times during the year, but things have obviously been difficult in 2020 because of Covid so we’re looking forward to getting away,” says the dad-of-two.

“Already we’ve booked flights to spend almost two weeks in Santorini and Mykonos next August, and we’re hoping to slot a few more trips into the calendar as well.”

And with changes to the rules taking effect from January 1, after the Brexit transition period ends, Piyus and wife Sheena Tanna-Shah, who both work as optometrists, will be taking steps to ensure their trips abroad go smoothly.

“We’ve checked our passports to see they have at least six months left on them at the time we’re travelling,” says Piyus. “Mine and Sheena’s are fine, as well as one of our daughter’s. But we noticed that our other little girl’s passport might expire a bit too close to that trip, so we’ll look into renewing it in plenty of time.”

As well as making sure of their passport status, Piyus and Sheena have also been in touch with their mobile providers to find out whether their roaming fees will be affected.

“At this point we’ve not had that confirmed either way, but we will keep an eye on it, as well as our travel insurance,” says Piyus. “With everything going on with the pandemic – and the care we’ll potentially need to take around that later in the year – we want to keep on top of changes to the rules after the transition period to make our trip away as straightforward and enjoyable as possible.”
