Top-dog Pog key to Ole’s title charge

-

IT’S good to be back in the podcast charts with my old pal Matthew Syed in a 10-part series called Talent Takes Practice.

If you’ve got a long journey ahead, have a listen – it’s a fascinating look at what it takes to reach the top. Next week’s episode features Brendan Rodgers – a real eye-opener on how your first actions as a coach can affect your standing and relationship with the players. Go on, treat yourselves.

TROLLS had a field day when I predicted the team that finishes above Manchester United would win the title after they were hit for six at home by Tottenham.

And, in all honesty, I have to admit I was losing faith in my crystal ball when United struggled at home in the first two months of the season.

But if they win their game in hand, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side would be second, just two points behind Liverpool.

Although I should be sitting here feeling smug and proud of my forecast before a ball was kicked, I know there is a long way to go. To date, the Reds have been propped up by their ability to win games away from home, even after falling behind as they did – yet again – at Sheffield United.

Unsettled or not, midfield superstar Paul Pogba (left) has to start every game with Solskjaer challenging him to set the tempo and dictate the terms.

United have been very hit-and-miss – and yet they are still bang in contention for the title.

IT’S been an eventful year, to say the least. Somehow, with a few unscheduled breaks, we’ve managed to keep football going from grass roots to Champions League. Have a fantastic Christmas and enjoy yourselves – but above all, stay safe and look after each other.
