KLOPP’S BOB-A-JOB WEEK

- BY CHRIS McKENNA

JURGEN KLOPP has told Bobby Firmino that the best way to score more goals is to stop worrying about them.

Firmino’s last-gasp header that sealed three points for Liverpool against Spurs in midweek was just his third goal of the season.

But Klopp, who has stoutly defended the Brazilian from criticism, says that he will never complain about his lack of goals as long as he is contributing elsewhere.

The German (with Firmino, below) said: “Yes he wants to score more. We had conversations about that. It’s not that I tell him he doesn’t have to score or he tells me he can’t score.

“All strikers in the world want to score more, even Mo Salah and Robert

Lewandowski want to score more.

“But the moment a player is worried only about scoring is the moment problems could start. That’s why it’s really important a player is more concerned with the job he has to do in a game. “In the end what’s important is that the team scores. Bobby is fine but yes of course he wants to score more.” Liverpool take on Crystal Palace in today’s lunchtime kick-off with their squad ravaged by injury.

But the absence of key players has allowed home-grown stars to fill the gaps and no-one has done it better than midfielder Curtis Jones, one of the stand-out performers in the win over Tottenham on Wednesday. And Klopp has been impressed with how Scouser Jones has handled the pressure of being a local lad in the team.

He added: “When we speak about the kids we constantly forget Curtis because we do not see him as a kid any more. But he is. We just have to keep him working hard. It’s all great and the future could be pretty bright.”
