SAM-THING Forest get it together after period SPECIAL of upheaval

SAMMY AMEOBI admits Nottingham Forest are only starting to gel now after their summer spending spree.

Forest came seventh last term under old boss Sabri Lamouchi, who then brought in 14 new players.

But the Frenchman was axed after a disastrous start to the season and replaced by Chris Hughton in October.

The Reds ended a seven-game winless streak by beating Sheffield Wednesday in midweek.

The match was noticeable for fit- again skipper Joe Worrall calling Forest into a huddle before kick off. That pre-match act was a regular ritual last year but hasn’t always been present this term.

“It was just Wozza getting everyone in a huddle,” said Ameobi. “We haven’t really done it much this season with there being a lot of changes.

“It was good to get everybody together before the game, making sure we were ready. We did sign a lot of players in the summer and there was a lot of change in this team.

“It’s taken time for us to get used to each other and how we want to play. But now we have a solid base, I do feel we’re getting to know each other better and are becoming more of a team, rather than just a bunch of good individual players.

“There’s more of a cohesiveness that I’ve witnessed and been a part of over the last few weeks.

Hopefully that can stand us in good stead when it comes to playing together on the pitch.”

Forest will need that unity today when they visit Millwall. But Ameobi reckons the squad are clear what former Brighton boss Hughton is demanding from them.

“He’s really stressed how we need to be compact,” added the winger.

“He’s been very direct in getting his message across, telling us over and over again, just so we know.

“The whole repetitiveness might seem a little bit boring at times, but we understand that. He’s still drilling it into us every day, making sure we don’t forget it.

“That’s the way he manages, and that’s fine with us.”
