WILDER’S PINK SLIP

-

seeing his team double their points tally to two thanks to a goal from sub Jayden Bogle, said: “The draw is a small step for us but when you get that close it is very disappointing not to see the game out.

“When you are down to 10 men with 50 minutes to play you are going to be in for a long afternoon.”

Wilder was more upset with Lundstram’s red card (top).

“The red card must have been borderline. The referee has initially given yellow. VAR didn’t give it straight away and the referee came over to the monitor (above). They said excessive force, but I’m not sure how you determine that.

“I played my career at a time when this was a contact sport but I think we have to be careful we don’t make this a non-contact sport, I believe supporters want to see contact.”

Explaining his substitutions, the Blades boss said: “Oliver Burke got us higher up the pitch with a bit more pace.

“And putting Jayden Bogle on was because Solly March was giving us problems and we wanted to get him going the other way – and he has ended up scoring on his debut.”

Jayden Bogle became the fifth player to score on his Premier League debut for Sheffield United, after Brian Deane (1992), Willie Falconer (1993), Rob Hulse (2006) and Billy Sharp (2019).

Brighton’s Danny Welbeck has scored his eighth Premier League goal as a substitute and first since scoring for Arsenal vs West Ham in August 2018.

Sheffield United’s John Lundstram was sent off in a league game for the first time since March 2016 for Oxford vs Stevenage in League Two.
