Murder cops release clip in new probe
FOOTAGE of a man who went missing 28 years ago today has been released by police in a bid to find his killers.
Steven Clark, 23, vanished on December 28, 1992, and this September his parents Doris, 82, and Charles, 78, were arrested on suspicion of his murder.
The film was seen in October 1993 on an ITV show about missing people, and it also aired on Carlton Television.
Det Chief Insp Shaun Page, of Cleveland Police, has confirmed the cold case is being treated as a murder inquiry.
He said: “Steven had a distinctive walk as a result of a childhood road accident. The footage shows his walk, and you
hear his voice. We are releasing it as part of the new investigation in the hope people come forward.”
Steven was last seen entering a public toilet on the seafront in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorks, and was reported missing by his mum.
She and her husband are former police officers.
Det Chief Insp Shaun Page added: “The bank holiday falls in the same way as it did the year Steven went missing and many beachgoers will walk around Saltburn as they did then.
“The response has been fantastic, but I’d urge others to come forward.”
Steven was filmed for the Redcar branch of the Rathbone Society charity, which helps people with disabilities to improve their employment skills.
He won the Apprentice of the Year award but never collected the £ 1,000 prize. This month, the Mirror revealed his parents, of Marske, North Yorks, are taking part in a TV documentary about the case. They deny any wrongdoing.
A mystery letter writer, who told police they knew the identity of Steven’s killer in 1999, has come forward after the Mirror published extracts last month.
