And lo, did the angel Gabriel tell Mary that a child would be born unto her...
Or, in a modern day celebrity retelling: lo, did David Walliams tell Sheridan Smith she should have a baby.
The Britain’s Got Talent judge was the unlikely wise man who gave Sheridan the advice that led to her having her first-born child, Billy, with fiance, Jamie Horn, in May.
Speaking to Woman’s Own, Sheridan, heridan, 39, said: “David Walliams said to me years ago, ‘ You should have a child, Sheridan. Don’t get married, but have a child’.
“And I took his advice. It totally changes your perspective on life. I’m over the moon.”
David, who has one child, Alfred, who he shares with his ex- wife, Lara Stone, gave Sheridan his advice when they worked together on the play A Midsummer Night’s Dream back in 2013.
Since then, they have often shared on-screen space, and he has become her mentor.
She said: “David’s always been like my big brother in everything that I’ve been through, and he’s amazing.
“We’ve had such a laugh on everything from Mr Stink to Ratburger. And I think he’s a genius — he’s a modern Roald Dahl.” The feelings are reciprocated by David, 49, who once told This Morning how he and Sheridan “sort of joke a lot that we are going to get married”.
He said: “We’ll kind of be a Poundland Arthur Miller and Marilyn Monroe. We’re quite obsessed with Arthur Miller and Marilyn Monroe.”
Sadly, with Jamie now in the picture, David will just have to line up another leading lady for himself instead.
Poundland Marilyn? Who wouldn’t rush down the aisle to be branded that?
