DYCHE STILL HAS COMPLETE FAITH IN HIS GOAL-SHY HITMEN

- BY SIMON BIRD

SEAN DYCHE says he still believes in Burnley’s misfiring strikers.

The Turf Moor boss has stuck with Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes (above) in recent weeks despite them netting just four goals between them all season.

Dyche takes his Clarets side to West Ham today needing an upturn in their scoring rate and calling for more goals from elsewhere in the team.

He said: “It’s not about loyalty, it’s about players I think are playing well, players that are active, players doing the job they’re meant to do.

“I believe in all the players here, regardless of who the first XI are. It’s more about the team I think can win a game.

“Of course you want your strikers scoring, no matter who is out there, but equally, you look at the rest of the team, and we have to find goals in the same way we ask strikers to defend from the front.

“It’s more relevant I put a team out there I think can win.”

Dyche believes the quality of real chances, rather than pot shots that show up as goal opportunities, is improving.

He added: “There’s a lot of noise about the amount of chances, they only really count if they’re quality chances. We try and look at the quality of chances we’re creating and that’s got better as the season has gone on.

“The hardest job in the world is to put it in the net, I’ve always said that I don’t overly put pressure on centre-forwards, now and again I do.

“I kind of leave them to keep in the right areas and keep doing their job, and they’ll find a goal.”
