MY AMAZING PHOTOGRAPH

-

It’s a wild wintry night in the Lake District, where Lesley Francis has cleverly caught the gusts of snow beginning to settle under the yellow glare of the street lamps.

The 73-year-old always keeps her iPhone handy as she says “everywhere here is a good view!”

Living in Stramongate, Kendal, Lesley says, “I’m fortunate to live here as no matter what the weather, the scenery takes on a new perspective.”

If you would like your work to hang in our gallery, please send your favourite photo or snap of your artwork to siobhan.mcnally@mirror. co.uk and include your age and address and tell us what inspires you.

I still remember the call of the rag and bone man rattling through the London streets on his cart back in the 1970s, but Mrs C Shaw in Thornaby, Stockton-onTees, can recall the sights and sounds of the 1950s.

She writes: “I am nearing 80 now and I still remember the coal man, rag man, fish seller and milkman coming round on their horse and carts.

“Ration books had ended by then, and my aunt, who worked in our local sweet shop, would spoon out the broken sweets from the bottom of the jar for me as a treat. The shop also sold ice lollies with real bits of fruit in them.

“My grandma would give us a spoonful of Virol, or malt from a brown jar, which I also loved.

“As well as cocoa and sour apple sweets, we children would relish a stick of rhubarb and sugar. And also liquorice sticks mixed in water in little bottles were very refreshing.” Join our trip down Memory Lane and tell us your childhood memories.
