BATTLER MAC IN LINE TO BE TOP OF POTTS

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

BRIGHTON manager Graham Potter claims Alexis Mac Allister can make it to the top because he is “a fighter.”

Potter is impressed by the impact Mac Allister has made in his first full season with the Seagulls, despite being hit by injury and coronavirus.

Maupay and the playmaker has three goals and an assist this campaign.

“Sometimes when players make the move, we just assume it’s going to happen for them,” said Potter.

“But the guy has moved from South America, he was adapting to England, then Covid happens, then he picks up a couple of injuries. It’s not been quite straight-forward.

“But character has never been in doubt with Alexis. He’s a fighter. He wants to help the team. He’s determined, an intelligent football player, he’s a good guy to work with.

“He reads the game well, has a good football brain and can execute the final pass.

“He came up with a bit of quality for the goal and it’s about us finding the right role for him that gets the most out of him.”

Potter was delighted with his players’ resilience in ending their two-month wait for a league win after such a gruelling week on the road.

“I’m absolutely very proud of the players,” he said. “It was a tremendous effort after a tough and good week.

“We played 120 minutes at Newport last Sunday, then had a long trip to play Manchester City on Wednesday.

“So to come here and play a Leeds team, that is still quite fresh, to keep a clean sheet, to restrict them to a few chances and win, I couldn’t be happier for the players.”
