Moyes:I’d swap my manager of the year awards for Jose’s titles

- BY PAUL BROWN

DAVID MOYES says he would trade his three Manager of the Year awards for Jose Mourinho’s trophies.

Tottenham boss Mourinho has never won the award, which is voted for by members of the League Managers Association.

But while Moyes is pushing for a fourth this season, he has only ever won one trophy, the Community Shield, while Mourinho has won 25 pieces of silverware.

The West Ham boss said: “Being Manager of the Year doesn’t always necessarily mean you’re at the top team. Sometimes it’s what you’ve done with other teams.

“I would swap my Manager of the Year awards for Jose Mourinho’s medals if that was possible. I want to have club awards.

“To have a CV like Jose with the trophies on it is remarkable.

“I’m very proud of my Manager of the Year awards. But I would really have loved to get one of Jose’s Premier League medals.”

Moyes famously beat Mourinho to the award in 2005 by taking Everton into the Champions League.

His opposite number won a Premier League and League Cup double with Chelsea that year, while also reaching the Champions League semi-finals.

But ahead of tomorrow’s clash at London Stadium, Moyes said: “I don’t think Jose would have bothered about the Manager of the Year award he would have been more bothered with winning the league titles and winning the cups.

“Jose’s got a cabinet full of them and I’d like to get a cabinet in the first place and see what I can do after that.”

Moyes, who puts Pep Guardiola, Brendan Rodgers and Dean Smith up as candidates for this year’s award, has West Ham on the cusp of Europe in fifth.

But he said: “I expect us to do it next year and the year after, because that’s my job.”
