MOW END TO ROVERS TROUBLES

Championship: 3pm

- BY JAMES NURSEY

TONY MOWBRAY admits Blackburn’s injury woes show no sign of easing after three straight losses.

Rovers head to Nottingham Forest today without Tom Trybull, Lewis Holtby, Bradley Johnson, Daniel Ayala and Joe Rankin-Costello while Scott Wharton and Derrick Williams are long-term absentees.

Spanish centre-back Ayala has been limited to just nine games since joining from Middlesbrough and is yet to play this year.

Mowbray (above), whose side lost 2-1 at Barnsley in midweek, rued: “I don’t think there’s many positives on players potentially coming back in.

“When you look at the nature of some of the goals we’ve lost, a physical presence would have helped.

“The balance of talent, physicality, speed and experience is what you need. Ayala and Johnson would add physicality and experience.”

MICK McCARTHY is speaking to Cardiff’s hierarchy on a regular basis – but insists his long-term future is not up for discussion.

The Bluebirds boss is contracted at the club until the end of the season, however his unbeaten start has already sparked talk of an extension.

And while McCarthy (right) has held conversations over the prospects of certain players, he insists he is not yet thinking about his own future.

McCarthy admitted: “I’ve not looked for any chat. If they want to keep me, great. If not, I’m sure something else will come up.

“All I’m bothered about is beating Preston. If you win games your just rewards come.”
