Married pair in prison over violent spree

- BY GWYN WRIGHT

A HUSBAND and wife have been jailed over a string of violent burglaries.

During one break-in Gary Spilsbury, 48, tied up a terrified 24-year-old woman and threatened to rape her unless she revealed her bank details.

In another he tied up and robbed a woman of 77.

His wife Gemma, 36, sold the stolen items on the black market.

The pair, of Farnworth, Gtr Manchester, were jailed at the city’s Minshull Street crown court.

Gary Spilsbury pleaded guilty to burglary, robbery, theft and fraud. He was jailed for nine years.

Gemma got nine months after admitting handling stolen goods.

Judge John Potter told them: “You are people with no moral compass.”

With its orange and black stripes, you might think the Bengal tiger would stick out like a sore thumb against the green backdrop of central India’s forests.

But when your prey can’t see certain colours, it’s the perfect camouflage.

Sir David explains: “The deer is blind to red and orange, so to the deer the tiger isn’t orange at all. The tiger’s orange coat to them is a muted shade of green, so it’s nearly impossible for the deer to register.”

Some animals have developed camouflages with such perfection that they are virtually invisible against their surroundings.

Using special cameras, the team show what the tiger looks like to the human eye versus what its prey sees.

SOME 84% of people have no idea which creatures are close to extinction, a study found.

Nine in 10 do not realise donkeys are in danger of being wiped out and twothirds do not know bees are at risk, let alone the threat to gorillas, black rhinos and orangutans.

Dr Ben Sturgeon, of the Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad which did the poll, said: “Donkeys are public favourites but a majority are unaware of the trade in their skins.”
